AMD to continue in ATI’s steps with Nintendo Wii U console: "

For those of us who own AMD stocks still play consoles, it is interesting to note that even though AMD has discontinued its ATI brand name, in favor of unifying all its chipset under the AMD name, they have reached an agreement with Nintendo to continue providing the GPUs for their upcoming Wii U console.

The Wii U, will boast HD graphics and advanced game play as well as improve on the revolutionary Wiimote interface, and is set to be launched in 2012.

If you’ve paid attention in the last decade, you’ll have noticed that ATI has provided the graphic chipset for the latest Nintendo’s full size consoles including the Gamecube and Wii. The ATI brand name has recently been discontinued in a marketing move to consolidate the AMD brand name. In fact, if you were to go purchase a Radeon video card today, it would be an AMD Radeon.
